Workshop: Planning Campus Events
Instructor: Geni Greiner

Who Should Attend: Anyone involved in planning campus events.

This workshop will address event planning tips for a diverse range of campus associated events: donor and student events, board meetings, academic ceremonies, athletic events, external constituents, groundbreakings, and reoccurring events. Attendees will be assigned a group and a topic to plan an "Event". Groups will share their "Event" at the conclusion of the workshop with the other attendees allowing the opportunity for feedback and discussion.

We ask registrants to provide the following information via email to betsy.jackson@dev.gatech.edu before the workshop:
Type of events you are interested in planning
Years of experience in planning events

About the Presenter:
Geni Greiner is the Director of University Events for Purdue University .

Greiner is a 15 year veteran of business-theatre. She began her career in conference management, served as the Director of Development Events for Iowa State University, Director of Donor Relations for Kansas University Endowment Association and currently is the Director of University Special Events for Purdue University. Her career includes two completed campaigns, raising over two billion dollars.

Geni is well-versed in integrated marketing and donor cultivation. Her events are best known for their WOW factors and ability to immerse an audience. She coordinates over 140 special events and meetings each year. In a four-year period, she increased donor attendance by 50 percent and coordinated a national alumni tour with record-breaking attendance.

As the Director of Donor Relations, she led a team, which re-engineered the Stewardship reporting function for Kansas University. The enhanced process generated a 70 percent increase in funding in just two years.

Greiner joined Purdue in July 2003. Purdue has 38,000 students and is in the final year of a 1.5 billion dollar campaign. Greiner joined a successful staff whose responsibilities include Homecoming, advancement events and alumni rallies.

She graduated with a B.S. in Public Relations from Northwest Missouri State University and attended the Institute for Organizational Management at Notre Dame University.

Upcoming Book Arts Workshops at the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum at Georgia Tech

Here are two upcoming workshops at the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum located on the Georgia Tech campus.

Book Arts I Workshop
Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 10:00 am – 3:30pm

This five hour workshop is the first of a two-part bookmaking experience and is designed for book enthusiasts and teachers.

Join Marcia Watt, expert papermaker and book artist, for a day of creative bookmaking. Participants will learn to make a 3-dimensional book structure, called a Carousel or Star book.

All materials will be provided, but this structure can be adapted to your personal taste and style, so you are encouraged to bring your own small images or design elements.

Teachers can earn 1 PLU credit by signing up for this workshop and the five hour Book Arts Workshop II Saturday, March 7th, 2009. Please check with your local professional learning coordinator to receive credit.

Cost: $80.

Book Arts II Workshop
Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 10:00 am – 3:30pm

This five hour workshop is the second of a two-part bookmaking experience and is designed for book enthusiasts and teachers.

Join Marcia Watt, expert papermaker and book artist, for a fun-filled day of bookmaking. Participants will learn to make a Flag book, which is easy to make and perfect for displaying both images and text. All materials will be provided, but this structure can be adapted to your personal taste and style, so you are encouraged to bring your own small images or design elements.

Teachers can earn 1 PLU credit by signing up for this workshop and the five hour Book Arts Workshop I Saturday, February 7th, 2009. Please check with your local professional learning coordinator to receive credit.

Cost: $80.

Graduate Student Development Workshop: Phone Interviews for Academic Jobs

Sign Language Intepreters

If you are interested in learning more about sign language interpretation, Georgia Perimeter College has a Sign Language Interpreters Program. They offer American Sign Language courses, from beginning to advanced level. "These courses are designed for the person who wants to develop not only survival skills in ASL, but also fluency....ASL I classes are open to all. Georgia Perimeter College students may take the course for credit. Those who are not GPC students may enroll through our Continuing Education Department at 678-891-3000."

April is the associate vice president for Advancement at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and is the author of four books including the CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) best sellers, Special Events: Planning for Success; Etiquette and Protocol: A Guide for Campus Events; and Academic Ceremonies: A Handbook of Traditions and Protocol. She will lead sessions on successful event planning, etiquette for special events planners and staging a professional show.
