Bill George
Professor of Management Practice, Harvard Business School, and Author, 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis

Bill George is a professor of management practice at Harvard Business School, where he has taught leadership since 2004. He is the author of several best-selling books, including True North, Finding Your True North, and Authentic Leadership. His latest is 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis.

He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic. He joined Medtronic in 1989 as president and chief operating officer, was chief executive officer from 1991-2001, and chairman of the board from 1996 to 2002. Under his leadership, Medtronic's market capitalization grew from $1.1 billion to $60 billion, averaging 35 percent per year.

He has been named one of Top 25 Business Leaders of the Past 25 Years by PBS; Executive of the Year (2001) by the Academy of Management; and Director of the Year (2001-02) by the National Association of Corporate Directors.

David Herold
Professor Emeritus of Organizational Behavior
Co-author, Change the Way You Lead Change

David Herold, who joined Georgia Tech College of Management in 1973, is widely recognized for both his teaching and research. Former holder of the Gary T. Jones Chair, he has published widely in the major psychology and management journals.

His new book, Change the Way You Lead Change, offers businesses insights into better ways to approach change management. Co-authored by Georgia Tech organizational behavior professor Donald Fedor, the book shows how companies live on a "roller coaster of change," with overlapping changes being driven by different events, led by different executives, and originating from different parts of the organization.

According to Herold and Fedor, change is never a stepwise or easily prescribed process: It is messy and complicated, and its outcomes are easily swayed by a host of factors.

Herold is active as a management consultant, helping companies address a wide range of organizational and human resources issues. He holds a PhD from Yale University.

“The Pursuit of Purpose: Reflections from an Executive Coach”

Andy Fleming

Principal, Core Growth Partners

As founding principal of Core Growth Partners, Andy Fleming brings more than 20 years of corporate and consulting experience to leading companies.

Throughout his career, Fleming has coached hundreds of CEOs, senior executives, and "high potentials" to achieve significantly greater levels of performance while operating from a deeper sense of purpose and commitment.

He has played a central role in creating and implementing large scale leadership development institutes and initiatives for numerous organizations.

Fleming's background includes corporate and consulting roles with Procter & Gamble, Aetna, and The Hay Group. He also spent five years directing professional and undergraduate programming in Ethics and Servant Leadership at Emory University's Center for Ethics.

Fleming is the author of two books on life-work choices (Getting Ahead without Losing Heart and Backing down the Ladder).

He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Nicole Piver, a management major, will introduce the speaker.
