The Ivan Allen College's School of Literature, Communication and Culture welcomes poets Bruce Weigl and Kevin Pilkington to read from their collected works as part of LCC's Poetry at Tech lecture series.
Kevin Pilkington is a member of the writing faculty at Sarah Lawrence College and teaches a workshop in the graduate department at Manhattanville College. His poems and reviews have appeared in numerous magazines including: Poetry, Ploughshares, Iowa Review, Boston Review, Yankee, Hayden's Ferry, Columbia, Greensboro Review, North American Review, Gulf Coast, Valparaiso Review.
Bruce Weigl is a distinguished professor at Lorain County Community College. Weigl additionally served as the president of the Associated Writing Programs. His poems are featured in American Alphabets: 25 Contemporary Poets (2006) and many other anthologies.

15th Biennial Conference on Southern Literature in Chattanooga
The 15th Biennial Conference on Southern Literature will be held in Chattanooga from April 2-4, 2009, just a short hour and a half drive north of Atlanta.
On April 2-4, the Tivoli Theatre will echo with the sounds of stories, poems and lively discussions as the Arts & Education Council's Conference on Southern Literature returns for its 15th biennial gathering of world-class writers and their fans.
Described as the "premier literary event in the South" by author Louis Rubin, the AEC Conference brings 1,000 people from all over the country to see their favorite writers participate in discussions, readings and book signings.
The 2009 Conference celebrates 20 years of collaboration between the AEC and the Fellowship of Southern writers, an organization founded by Eudora Welty, Cleanth Brooks and other literary legends. The collaboration has enabled the AEC to bring the best southern writers to Chattanooga for the AEC Conference and its Education Enrichment programs, which reach hundreds of students and teachers each year.
The 2009 AEC Conference features keynote speakers Lee Smith and Jill McCorkle. Other participants include essayist Wendell Berry; fiction writers Josephine Humphreys, Clyde Edgerton, Robert Morgan, Elizabeth Spencer and Allan Gurganus; poets Rita Dove, Andrew Hudgins and Jim Applewhite; and playwrights Jim Grimsley, Marsha Norman and Beth Henley. Discussion topics include literary biography, historical fiction, writing in the voice of another race and playwriting.
